Universal Product Codes known as GTIN-12 appear as black lines of varying widths above a series of numbers. The UPC is a 12-digit unique code for your product. Scanners at supermarkets read the bars and translate them back into the 12-digit number. This number is associated in the computer system of each retailer that carries your product with your product's name, price, etc.
