The co-founders of Comdec (contract printing) and original owners of Imtran pad/screen printing equipment, Steve Meredith and Ken Harris, initially met at another pad printing company in the early 1970's, where they worked as technicians and engineers. Back then, they were teeming with ideas to improve pad printing and to take the "Black Magic, " as it was called, out of pad printing.
In 1977 they started their own company and quickly marketed their new ideas. The most notable of that time was the "Self-leveling Doctor Blade System, " which greatly reduced the adjustment time of clearing (doctoring) the print plates.

There are over 35 full time employees as well as up to 50 temporary help employees at any given time. Most full time employees have over 15 years of employment with Comdec and many have worked in all the departments - printing, inks, machinery, customer service - whatever it takes to get the job done is our goal.
As a contract printing specialist for over 30 years, Comdec has printed over 500 million items since we opened our doors in 1982. Our well-trained staff ensures that every order meets your quality and delivery specifications. Even with that experience there is always something to learn and the creative juices just keep flowing.
It's one of the lessons we've learned in three decades of satisfying customers and solving project challenges. Some customers know what they want, and they want it fast. Others seek to consult with us on the best way to make a printed image look great, last long, or survive harsh environments. Still others have special documentation requirements, need white-room conditions, or need to print on materials that usually stick only to themselves. Numerous products and materials have come across our desk that have taking some serious thought.
Marking and decorating medical products is a specialty area in which Comdec excels. We've worked with medical industry leaders like Abiomed, Bayer, and Waters to meet the unique printing challenges of patient-contact devices. We understand the special requirements and procedures that come with working with medical devices and parts.
